The Puppetoon Movie Volume 2 Blu-Ray+DVD (Collectors Limited Edition 2 Discs) is a second landmark collection of more dazzling George Pal Academy Award®-winning stop-motion and some all cel animated short subjects. Puppetoons not seen in generations are fully restored from their original Technicolor negatives. With special appearances by Bugs Bunny and Superman!

Producer-Director Arnold Leibovit - The Fantasy Film Worlds of George PalThe Puppetoon MovieThe Time Machine 2002 remake - proudly presents 18 brilliant high definition Puppetoons never before released on any home video format*

In the 1930s and 1940s, before George Pal made classic features like The Time Machine (1960) and The War of the Worlds (1953), he created dozens of stop-motion animated marvels called Puppetoons™ which utilized an astonishing Pal invention called the replacement figure or series puppet where thousands of wood puppets were created and replaced as required for each advancing frame of film. Pal’s big Idea transformed the flat cartoon into three-dimensional Puppetoons often praised as some of the great works of stop-motion animation ever conceived.

In 1987, working with Mrs. George Pal, Leibovit made The Puppetoon Movie. In 2013 an acclaimed HD restoration Blu-ray of that film was re-released and now for the first time Leibovit presents added Puppetoon masterpieces sourced from their Original 35mm Technicolor Successive Exposure Negatives (SEN) or 35mm (IB) Imbibition Technicolor Nitrate Prints.

It is big news to be able to finally excellent copies of George Pal's pioneering and incredibly influential work. What animator and/or special effects person in the world hasn't been touched and influenced by these incredible films, which have been very difficult to see in good copies for many years. For all film fans, these releases are absolutely mind-blowing, and naturally we want more!!!

This DVD is a masterpiece from the golden ages of film. The quality of the Blue Ray is spectacular. I honestly got choked up watching the beauty of George Pal's work. I am so happy to be able to watch Good Night Rusty. I never thought I would be able to see it ever again. Watching "This is Oil" made me think of how great the future looked. A Hat Full of Dreams is a whimsical treat. Thank you Mr. Leibovit for rescuing these prize Puppetoons. I cannot wait until Volume 3. These DVD's need to be viewed by all mankind. I believe that they can lift you up and make you see the world in a better light.

Of all the things I could say about this masterpiece, none of those things would even be remotely negative. The Puppetoon Movie Volume 2 is an absolutely legendary preservation effort of the legacy of George Pal. Volume 2 comes as a follow-up of producer and Pal extraordinaire, Arnold Leibovit's 1987 masterpiece (and eventual HD restoration), The Puppetoon Movie! Included in Volume 2 are 18 of George Pal's Puppetoons! All shorts are beautifully restored from either their Original 35mm Technicolor Prints, or Original 35mm Technicolor Successive-Exposure-Negatives (SEN). My personal favorites in this wonderful DVD/Blu-Ray Combo are "A Hatful of Dreams" and "Jasper Goes Hunting", ones that specifically deserve to be remembered for their cameo appearances by Superman and Bugs Bunny. Any animation geek or film historian will usually remember George Pal as an animation genius, and this collection does everything but nothing to preserve that fact. I absolutely love this incredible set! I would personally like to extend my gratitude to Mr. Leibovit, who has dedicated most of his amazing career to the legacy of George Pal. I am committed to serve as a contributor and ally of this miraculous work, as long as it shall last. Hats off to the Puppetoons!

This is another amazing collaboration thanks to the efforts of Mr. Arnold Leibovit. With this version, we get more of the European shorts, which actually were advertisements for radio tubs, light bulbs, telephones and my favorite being, “How An Advertisement Becomes a Poster”, which was about pancake mix! My favorite of the whole bunch was “Two Gun Rusty” with great visuals, great backgrounds, capturing the look of the old west. Rusty of course, dreaming of some great adventures like any other child, and George Pal and his animators captured it beautifully. I also very much enjoyed “A Hatful of Dreams”, featuring Punchy and Judy, with Punchy as Superman, “Jasper Goes Hunting” with a special appearance by Bugs Bunny and “Jasper Tell”, a take on the William Tell story. And heck, even though I do not much care for oil companies, I thoroughly enjoyed” Prospecting for Petroleum” a short brought to us by the Shell Oil Company, featuring Cecil B. DeMille actor H.B. Warner as The Voice of History. George Pal fans, stop-motion fans, film buffs and many others will revel in these works. There are still some shorts that have yet to be released. Bring on Volume 3!

Puppetoons are the crown of Pal's career. Made using replacement animation with thousands wood puppets, to see them on screen is just a remarkable viewing experience. Since the figures squash and stretch, on screen they do not look like wood, but on the other hand, the basic shapes of balls and blocks do. This second edition includes a real discovery: Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves. The belly dancer is worth the price of admission! Dipsey Gypsy and A Hatful of Dreams are visual marve!s! I know much has been made about the racist element of the Jasper Puppetoons, but Pal employed a lot of black actors and musicians (including Duke Ellington), and the amount of personality in the Jasper series is undeniable. Pal was a nice man and when he realized people had a problem with the Jasper films, he took those comments to heart. I interviewed with Pal when he was trying to get THE DISAPPEARANCE made. He was late and so I spoke with secretary Gae Griffith, a pleasant woman. I was sitting on the front office couch and heard him approaching from down the hall. He entered with a big smile, reached out his hand and tripped, falling right towards me! Ms. Griffith caught him before he fell on top of me. They laughed and we went to his office. He showed keen interest in my work, pausing at an illustration I had done for Cinefantastique for a feature on THE TIME MACHINE. It never happened, nor did THE DISAPPEARANCE, but I'm so grateful for Pal's wonderful work. I highly recommend this edition!
