Arnold Leibovit is proud to present the restored Director's Cut of The Puppetoon Movie, digitally 4K scanned for the first time from the Original 35mm Color Negative and presented on Blu-ray with over 2 hours of Bonus Extras and a 28-page Color Collector's Booklet. This new restoration reinstates many of the individual Puppetoons original opening and closing titles - removed from the 1987 release - and fully restores key Puppetoon classics Tubby the Tuba, Tulips Shall Grow, John Henry and the Inky-Poo, Together in the Weather, Jasper in a Jam, plus the addition of Wilbur the Lion as well as restorations of The Philips Broadcast of 1938, South Sea Sweethearts, The Sleeping Beauty, Philips Cavalcade and excerpts of The Little Broadcast and Hoola Boola. All original opticals and transitions have been upgraded and restored, and the film now features a newly created DTS-HD MA 5.1 Surround & LPCM Stereo Mix.
The Puppetoon Movie is a salute to the Academy Award®-winning stop-motion animated PUPPETOONS™ created by sci-fi fantasy film legend George Pal. Newly created opening and closing animation stars Gumby, Pokey and Arnie the Dinosaur hosting 10 of Pal's brilliantly conceived Puppetoons. In 1987 Producer-Director Arnold Leibovit, working with Mrs. George Pal, crafted this heartfelt compendium celebrating Pal's landmark stop-motion animated shorts from 1934–1947, years before he created his groundbreaking science fiction classics like The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds. The Puppetoons are a visual feast that continue to inspire, astound and amaze new generations of animation and special effects filmmakers the world over.
The Puppetoons are a remarkable blend of fairy tale, satire, big band music, and ingenious technical wizardry. These "Color Cartoons in Three Dimensions," as Pal called them, are brilliantly conceived even by today's standards and remain a marvel to behold.
Fans will enjoy the return of Tubby the Tuba, Punchy & Judy, Jim Dandy, Jan and Janette, The Screwball Army, John Henry, Wilbur the Lion, Jasper plus the first Puppetoon key animation work from legendary animator Ray Harryhausen.
So journey back to that time of magic and wonder, and rediscover George Pal's imaginative, one-of-a-kind Puppetoons like never before!
